Reminder: Detours Set for Thursday and Friday Nights

From the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project:

Interstate I-66 westbound at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) will be closed overnights Thursday, Nov. 11 and Friday, Nov. 12, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. because of Dulles Metrorail construction.

When I-66 westbound lanes close, thru traffic will be detoured on to the Dulles Connector Road west bound, to Route 123 south toward Tysons Corner, to a right turn to the ramp to the Capital Beltway south toward Richmond. Drivers can then rejoin I-66 from the Beltway. For local traffic, drivers have options to exit I?66 prior to the closing.

Distracted Driving Awareness & Summonses on the Rise

There was a 66 percent increase in citations written for failure to pay full time and attention (and texting while driving) in 2010 compared to the same time period in 2008. Police have issued 7,165 summonses for these offenses this year compared to 4,305 in 2008.

Be Alert For Deer

From the Fairfax County Police Department:

Police caution motorists to stay alert for deer in the roadways.

Virginia was ranked among the top10 states in the nation for deer/vehicle collisions in 2009. The vast majority of these collisions occur during the deer breeding season between now and early January. Motorists should pay close attention and remain alert at all times, especially at dawn and dusk when deer are active and are likely to be seen quickly entering roadways in herds. Police are posting a mobile sign board on roads where deer/vehicle collisions have been reported in recent weeks, such as Braddock Road and Pleasant Valley Road.
