Centreville High School Cake-Walk

Have some cake, Wildcats! Centreville High School's Cake-Walk, sponsored by the SGA, will be held at the Back to School Festival on September 1. Tickets will just be a $1! Centreville SGA is looking for anyone willing to donate a cake. Also, if you are in SGA for this upcoming school year, you can get portfolio points for your contribution. Cakes need to be at the main office on Wednesday, September 1 to be entered into the Cake-Walk.

Centreville High Schools Offers Early Bird Yearbook Sales

Centreville High School yearbooks will be sold at the Back to School Festival on September 1! Get ahead of the game and stop by the booth to purchase your yearbook early for the one day price of $70. This is your chance to buy it before it gets to $90! You also can purchase it online until the end of August and get the same deal.

Starlight Cinema Presents Drive-in Movie Night

On Saturday, August 21, Starlight Cinema in Centreville is playing “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.” This drive-in movie presentation is free and gates at 5870 Trinity Parkway will open at 6:00 p.m. For more information you can call 703-324-SHOW.



Dulles Expo Center to Host Capital Home Show

The Capital Home Show will be returning to the Dulles Expo Center once again. The event will run Friday, September 24 through Sunday, September 26 and will include lots of new features and highlights. Come learn some about some hot new products, energy saving tips, and see demo stages for all parts of the house from the kitchen to your bedroom.

There will be over 250 exhibitors and celebrity presenters including HGTV’s Andrew Downward of “Divine Design," designer Christopher Straub from Season 6 of “Project Runway,” and WTOP’s Gardening Editor and host of “Garden Sense,” Mike McGrath to name a few.

WFCM Holds Back-to-School Backpack Collection

Western Fairfax Christian Ministries (WFCM) is holding their annual backpack collection as we approach the new school year. They collect backpacks for the elementary, middle and high schools in areas such as Centreville, Fairfax Station, Clifton, and Chantilly to name a few.

WFCM is asking area residents to contribute whenever possible because so far they have requests for over 1,300 backpacks which are given to students with free or reduced-price lunches. Due to the rough economy, the numbers of backpack requests have gone up by 15% since last year. Some schools don’t even request a number, they just have asked for as many as possible.

If you would like to donate a backpack you can drop it off at WFCM located at 13981 Metrotech Drive in Chantilly, VA. WFCM asks that the backpack donations are dropped off on or before August 25 because the deliveries to the schools will occur by August 27.

Book Discussion Group for Kids

The Centreville Regional Library is hosting a book discussion for children ages 9-12 on Monday, August 16. The event will be held in the Centreville Library Meeting Room #1 and is being presented by a library volunteer.

The group will be discussing The Ghost’s Grave by Peg Kehret. Adults are welcome to accompany their children. The book discussion will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and should run until 7:30 p.m.


Centreville High School Beautification Day

On August 21 Centreville High School will be holding its 2nd Annual Grounds Beautification Day. The community is encouraged to come out starting at 8:00 a.m. to help with weeding, mulching, planting and trimming. Last year there were lots of helpers and the high school is expecting an even bigger crowd this year.

Students can earn volunteers hours for the work they put in. Tell your friends, neighbors and family and bring any supplies of your own such as wheelbarrows, weed eaters, rakes and shovels. After the school is beautified, it will be ready for the Back to School Festival on September 1 and the Freshman Orientation on September 3!
