Celebrate Fairfax

Get ready to have some fun! Come out to the Celebrate Fall for Fairfax event this Saturday at Fairfax Government Center. Fall for Fairfax will run from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Activities include a train ride, a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, inflatables and several kid's performances. There will also be exhibits on education, sport and fitness, public saftey, personal health and the environment.

Grand Opening of Centreville Chiropractic Center

The following was sent to us by Centreville Chiropractic Center:

Dr. Jason Brown and Dr. Marla Gebaide are holding the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for their chiropractic clinic, Centreville Chiropractic Center, with the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce on September 30th at 5:30pm.  At this event they will be presenting a local non-profit, YouthQuest with a check for the amount they have raised over the past month through their philanthropic promotion.  Appetizers, drinks, prizes, and free chair massages will be available throughout the event.  Virginia Senator Marsden will also be present at the ribbon cutting.  Dr. Brown and Dr. Gebaide look forward to sharing the celebration with local business owners and patients.

Movie on the Lawn at Centreville High School

Centreville High School's SGA is sponsoring a Movie On The Lawn this Saturday, September 25. They will be showing the movie “Up” on the Baseball Practice Field. Tickets ($3) go on sale starting at 7:00 p.m. and the movie will run from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or beach blanket! The baseball concession stand will be open during the movie. Come out this weekend for some family fun!

Thomas Scott Baldwin And His Red Devil

Thomas Scott Baldwin, "Captain Tom," as he was known, was a famous exhibition balloonist, who moved on to powered airships, then took up fixed wing aircraft in association with Glenn Curtiss. Senior curator Tom Crouch will discuss Baldwin's long career, with a focus on his best known aircraft -- The Red Devil, which is on view at the Udvar-Hazy Center.

The Ask An Expert lecture series at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is presented every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 12:30 PM. A Museum staff member talks to the public about the history, collection, or personalities related to a specific artifact or exhibition in the Museum.

Centreville Immigration Forum

There will be another Centreville Immigration Forum on Tuesday September 28. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Centreville United Methodist Church. The church is located at 6400 Old Centreville Road in Centreville, VA.

 

Virginia Indian Festival This Weekend

 

This Saturday, September 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. is this year's Virginia Indian Festival at Riverbend Park in Centreville, VA. The festival includes eight Virginia and Washington, DC area tribes, including the Rappahannock dancers and drummers. Indian crafts, pottery and music will be for sale at the festival. There will also be live demonstrations and talks by tribe members, tool-making experts and local archaeologists, plus bow and arrow shooting and spear throwing with an atlatl. You will even get the chance to help build an authentic dug-out canoe! Don't miss this special festival. Everyone is welcome to attend; tickets are $5 per person.

St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School to Host 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run

St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School in Clifton, VA will be hosting it's 3rd annual 5K Run and 1 mile Fun Run on Saturday October 2nd at 7:30 a.m.  The race will start and finish in the St. Andrew church parking lot.  This is a USATF Certified 5K single loop course, with cash prizes to the top 3 male and female finishers.   Free t-shirt to those registered by September 15th, $25 entry fee for 5K and $15 for the fun run.  For more information or to register click on www.standrew-clifton.org.
